Rules
The GPFFL plays under the set of rules that govern the annual Gay Bowl. Most of these rules are identical to college football rules (e.g., one foot in). However,
there are many other rules (e.g., one run per possession, the ‘rush
box’) that make these rules unique. The rules can be found on the NGFFL website here.
How To Play
Here is a link to the passing tree, which shows each receiver route and the standard number that is assigned to each. There is a great set of videos to learn more about playing football on YouTube here, and in addition here are direct links to videos about how to run some of the routes described on the passing tree:
1/3. Out Route -

2. Slant Route - Video
6. Curl Route - Video
8. Post Route - Video
On the defensive side of the ball, most times the
zone defense is the most effective - here is a link to description of the scheme and how each player contributes to the defense. In some situations, when the offense is in the red zone and the field is compressed, a man-to-man defense can be used effectively. Here is a link to the description of this scheme.
League Play Field
League play is held at Columbus Square
at 12th St and Wharton Sts in South Philly. There is a free parking
lot across 12th St from the entrance to the fields, and Columbus Square
is a 3 block walk from the Ellsworth-Federal stop on the Broad St
(Orange) Subway Line.

If you have any questions about how to get to the field, please contact commissioner@phillyflagfootball.com
